Shopaholic: don’t let this be you!
Think you have to pay big bucks to keep up with fashion trends? Wrong. I actually think it’s a best practice to not spend a lot of money on things that won’t 100% become a staple in your wardrobe. For a fashionista, there aren’t many things worse than a closet full of designer duds that you can’t wear anymore because they were just a passing fad.
The best way to keep up with the trends without getting carried away is to create a set a strict budget for yourself on how much those yellow skinnies or nude wedges, are really worth to you. Personally, I’d rather skimp on the yellow skinnies to add more to my nude wedge budget. Why? Once summer passes, I’m not sure I can see myself rocking yellow pants, and next summer colored jeans may no longer be in style. Nude wedges on the other hand, they will always come in handy. Who doesn’t want to look like they have long, lean legs?
Another trick to use, once you’ve decided your price points for the items on your “must-have” list, adjust your list of stores to hit accordingly. For example, my yellow skinny jean budget is between $20- $30, so I’m not going to visit stores like Express, Guess, or BCBG. I would, however, check out stores like TJ Maxx or Target. These stores are surprisingly on-trend with their merchandise and reasonably priced.
Shopping online is becoming more and more common – and with certain sites offering free shipping and no-hassle returns, what do you really have to lose? I found my amazing Jessica Simpson Nude Wedges for a great price on Zappos.com. Another one of my favorite sites for shoe shopping is Endless.com, both of these sites offer free 2-day shipping, no hassle returns, and they pay for the shipping on those returns. How can you go wrong?
I want to leave you all with a general rule of thumb: in season or not, never buy something that isn’t flattering on your figure. Sounds like common sense, but you’d be surprised how many women ignore this rule just to keep up with fashion trends.
