Summer Means Gold!

And we’re not talking about the Olympics, although we do hope our country’s athletes bring home some bling!

I’ve always lived by the rule of thumb that if it’s summer, I’m rocking gold accessories. I don’t know if it’s all the sunshine in summer playing mind games on me, but gold just seems right. Here are a few of my favorite gold accessories:

The Benefits of Frequent & Small Meals

It seems like we all grew up learning that you should eat 3 meals a day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But there’s actually a lot to be said for having more meals of smaller portions each time. Here are some reasons that you should consider having smaller and more frequent meals instead of just those traditional 3.

  • Your stomach isn’t as big as you may think. By having more frequent and small meals, you’ll be less likely to gorge yourself at any one time.
  • More frequent meals will keep that metabolism going all day long – helping you burn up those pesky calories!
  • Snacks can help your workday fly by! You’ll be keeping busy and keeping your energy up. Just make sure you’re eating healthy snacks – fresh fruits and veggies or some trail mix some good ideas.

This is a great way to help with any weight loss goals you may have so you should definitely think about giving this a try.

Have any of you tried this? How did it go?

Olympic Torch Snacks!

Are you throwing an Olympics themed party to celebrate Opening Ceremonies tonight? Here’s a super simple Olympics-themed snack you can make in less than 5 minutes!

What You’ll Need:

  • Popcorn
  • Ice Cream Cones

Directions:

Pop a bag of popcorn, then fill the ice cream cones with it for a “flame” effect. If you want to jazz it up, you can throw some Cheetos or orange and red M&M’s in there to add a little color to your fire. Really, that’s it!

Summer Olympics

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably already know that the 2012 Summer Olympics begin tomorrow in London! We hope that you’re all getting pumped for this because it is such a wonderful sporting event for the entire world.

You can keep track of all the events and winners here. Be sure to tune in and cheer for your country and your favorite athletes! I’m sure all you ladies are really looking forward to seeing some of the ridiculously-built guys from the US team… Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and David Oliver – to name a few.

This year, you’ll be able to enjoy 32 different sporting events. These include many that you already know and love like gymnastics, swimming, and track & field. Be forewarned, though – baseball and softball are no longer part of the lineup. This year, they have added women’s boxing and mixed doubles tennis.

Make That Manicure Last!

Have you tried gelish (gel) or shellac nail polish yet? In case you aren’t a frequent haver of manicures, the next time you do splurge and get one – try one of these two.

Both gel and shellac manicures are supposed to last longer than normal nail polish, and go over your natural nail. The are two differences from your end if you choose this option. One is that instead of letting your nails air dry or dry under a fan, if you opt for gel or shellac nail polish they will dry under UV lights and you’ll be good to go in under 10 minutes, with completely dry nails.

The second is when it comes time to take them off, the process is a bit more labor intensive than just wipe off the color with some nail polish remover. Typically your nail technician will have to either wrap or soak your fingers in concentrated nail polish remover for a few minutes. If you’ve ever had acrylic nails removed, the process is pretty similar.

Personally, I love changing up my nail color so I usually go with regular nail polish so that I can easily change colors whenever I feel like. But if I’m going on a trip or to an important function and I want to ensure that my nail color holds up, I would choose shellac. It’s been my experience that shellac holds up better and lasts longer than gel nail color.

What do you think, where do you land in the shellac vs. gel nail polish war?

Relationship Sanity

Okay, admit it, ladies – we’ve all been there. You just started a new relationship and you’re already letting your crazy show. Guys don’t know how to deal with the crazy – especially before they’ve created a real emotional bond with you. So, my plea to all the ladies out there is to just try to take a breath and relax!

If you put too much pressure on a relationship right out of the gates, you could likely scare your man off. No guy wants to go out with a girl and realize after a couple dates that he’s got a bonafide stage 5 clinger on his hands. Don’t play games, but don’t let him think he already owns the whole farm! If he doesn’t have to work for it, he’s not going to respect you. And without respect, this relationship is going nowhere, fast.

As for letting your jealous side come out to play, I would highly suggest that you don’t. Honestly, you can’t watch your man 24/7 and you can’t stop him from straying. Trust your gut – if you thought he was nice enough to date, then don’t just assume that he’s cheating on you every chance he gets.

Last, but not least, don’t ever assume you can change a man. I wouldn’t expect any of you to let a man come into your life and change everything that makes you, you – so why shouldn’t it go the other way, too? Healthy relationships are about compromise and accepting someone not just for their great qualities, but for their flaws as well.
